About this detail

This firestop system detail shows electrical nonmetallic tubing penetrating a fire-rated gypsum wallboard and stud wall assembly. The wall framing consists of either nominal 2 by 4-inch wood studs spaced 16 inches on center or minimum 2-1/2-inch wide steel channel studs spaced maximum 24 inches on center, faced with nominal 5/8-inch thick gypsum board. An optional nominal 4-inch diameter or smaller schedule 40 steel metallic sleeve is installed flush with the wall surfaces. The penetrating item is a nominal 2-inch diameter or smaller corrugated wall electrical nonmetallic tubing constructed of polyvinyl chloride, which requires a nominal annular space of 3/4-inch. Fill, void, or cavity material sealant is installed symmetrically on both sides of the wall within the annulus to achieve the required hourly ratings.
