The recessed luminaire is supported independently of the gypsum board ceiling system using luminaire bar hangers spanning between ceiling cross beams. The luminaire is secured to the ceiling grid with number nine steel suspension wires at a minimum of two support points at opposite corners. The ceiling grid consists of main beams and cross beams, suspended from the structure above using wire ties or screw bar hangers. A fixture whip connects the luminaire to a junction box with a maximum length of six feet. The gypsum board is finished flush against the luminaire housing.
