An HVAC smoke detector housing is mounted directly to the side of a sheet metal heating, ventilation, and air conditioning duct. A sampling tube projects from the rear of the detector unit, inserting through pre-drilled openings into the interior airstream to monitor airflow. Two number ten sheet metal screws secure the housing assembly to the duct wall. The detector placement is coordinated relative to the indicated direction of internal airflow.
