This assembly consists of a copper-clad ground rod driven into the earth, connected to a copper ground loop via an exothermic weld. A lightning protection down conductor is also joined to the ground rod assembly using an exothermic weld. The entire connection is housed within a reinforced concrete ground inspection well, which is capped with a cast iron lid marked 'GROUND'. The inspection well must be installed flush with the finished grade, requiring coordination with the general contractor. The copper ground loop is specified for structures sixty feet or more in height.
