Installation requirements for an electrical junction box recessed within a sound-rated gypsum board wall assembly containing batt insulation. A one-quarter inch gap around the perimeter of the box is completely filled with acoustical sealant to maintain acoustic performance. The junction box is sealed airtight using sheet caulking or pads, and boxes on opposite sides of the wall are separated by a minimum of sixteen inches. Similar installation conditions apply to sound-rated ceiling assemblies. Where required, fire-rated putty pads may also be utilized.
