A transition occurs from a galvanized rigid steel conduit in a hazardous hangar bay location to a Schedule 40 PVC conduit routed below the concrete floor slab. A vertical explosion-proof sealing fitting is installed on the rigid steel conduit at a minimum of one foot six inches above the floor slab. A threaded PVC-coated rigid steel to PVC adapter connects the vertical run to the underground conduit. The PVC conduit is encased in concrete with a minimum two-inch cover in all directions, maintained continuously for the entire length below the hazardous area. All conduit routed below the hangar bay floor slab requires a conduit sealing fitting on both ends, even when terminating in a non-hazardous location.
