A structural steel beam with varying depth frames into a supporting beam using a bolted shear connection and flange plates. The top plate thickness is defined by the smaller flange width and thickness, with a top plate left unwelded to the supporting beam top flange. A bottom flange plate features a slot at the deep beam and requires a one-half inch clearance distance around the flange plate with rounded corners. Fillet welds are specified per detail A with a minimum thickness based on the flange size. A deck support is provided as noted, maintaining specific dimensional offsets relative to the smaller flange width.
