An underground handhole or pullbox is installed with the checkered cover flush to the finished grade. The box consists of a Fogtite Type 2 box or equal with a galvanized steel lid, sized as required for wire fill. A gasket and mastic compound seal the upper joint between the box and lid. Conduits enter the sides of the box with wire slack looped inside. The entire assembly bears on a bed of washed rock for drainage and stability.
