A copper H-tap crimp connector joins the electrical conductors with insulation stripped only on the main conductor without cutting the conductor. Flame retardant cable tap insulators are installed on all taps using a twelve to fifteen ton hydraulic crimping tool to make hexagonal or circumferential crimps per manufacturer specifications. Butt splices and C-taps are prohibited, and all grounding system conductors remain unspliced. A plastic insulating cover from the Thomas and Betts CHT-WC series encloses the tap, secured with two plastic tie-wraps over the closed cover.
