The dowel bar assembly consists of two 0.362-inch diameter top spacer bars and two 0.362-inch diameter bottom spacer bars welded to 0.362-inch diameter Vee leg chairs at all intersections. Dowels are welded alternately to the top spacer bars. Three 0.177-inch diameter spreader wires are welded to the top spacer bars and crimped after installation. The entire dowel bar assembly must be fastened to the base course prior to paving to prevent floating during paving operations.
