A concrete sidewalk assembly is supported on a layer of engineered granular fill compacted to 95 percent maximum density. The concrete slab requires a minimum compressive strength of 18 megapascals and includes a maximum 2 percent cross slope directed toward drainage or away from the building. Transverse contraction joints and expansion joints are specified per plan notes and referenced standards. An underlay paper is installed beneath the base course in accordance with Japanese Industrial Standards.
SECTION 2%(MAX) PER PLAN NOTES: 1. PROVIDE EXPANSION JOINTS SPACED AT INTERVALS AS PER TABLE IN DETAIL A1/CS505 FOR STRAIGHT PORTIONS, AND WHERE SIDEWALK ABUT OTHER CONCRETE STRUCTURES. 2. TRANSVERSE CONTRACTION JOINTS MUST BE SPACED SO THAT THE RATIO OF LENGTH TO WIDTH WILL NOT EXCEED 1.25. THE DEPTH OF THE CONTRACTION JOINT WILL BE AT LEAST ONE FOURTH OF THE CONCRETE SLAB THICKNESS BUT NOT LESS THAN THE MAXIMUM NOMINAL SIZE OF AGGREGATE USED. 3. PROVIDE A MAXIMUM 2.0% CROSS SLOPE OF THE CONCRETE SIDEWALK. ENSURE CROSS SLOPE IS SLOPING TO THE NEAREST DRAINAGE SYSTEM OR AWAY FROM BUILDING. 4.
