A pavement transition and joint connects Portland cement concrete and hot mix asphalt surfaces. The concrete slab rests over a graded crushed aggregate base course and a compacted subgrade, with a six-inch cement stabilized subbase course applied where indicated. The adjacent asphalt section consists of a surface course and intermediate course over a bituminous tack coat, graded crushed aggregate base course, and compacted subgrade. A ten-foot minimum transition length is maintained for the aggregate and subbase layers. A bituminous tack coat is applied at the vertical interface between the concrete and asphalt layers.
