A proposed 10-inch high-density polyethylene SDR 11 water main transitions via mechanical joint adapters to a 10-inch ductile iron pipe 45-degree bend and gate valve. Foster fittings connect the mechanical joint to the bend. The entire fitting assembly is encased in a minimum 4-inch thick flowable fill that extends at least 12 inches past the outermost ductile iron pipe fittings and outside wall of the pipe with a 1-foot minimum clearance.
