A bolt-down valve cover labeled 'FIRE WATER' such as Neenah R-3497 or East Jordan 1716 is set flush with the finished paved surface. The valve box is surrounded by P-501 Portland cement concrete pavement and supported by two-by-four redwood blocks typically positioned at the base. A standard 6-inch steel conductor pipe encloses the upper valve assembly with a centering plate, extending down to the underground utility pipe.
