A twelve-inch thick concrete pavement abuts an HMA Superpave asphalt wearing course separated by an expansion joint. The concrete slab features a thickened edge dropping twelve inches and a construction joint forming a ribbon pattern twenty-four inches from the transition. Beneath the paving layers, a three-quarter-inch crushed aggregate base course compacted to ninety-five percent ASTM D-1557 sits over a six-inch diameter pit run layer. Unverified subgrade fill beneath the assemblies is removed and re-compacted to depths specified by the geotechnical engineer.
