A cast-in-place cement concrete pavement section bears on a crushed surfacing base course over undisturbed or recompacted subgrade. The concrete slab transitions in thickness from eight inches on one side to three and one-half inches on the other, while the crushed surfacing base course transitions from four inches to four inches beneath the thinner concrete section. Vertical and horizontal dimensions define the stepped transition profile of the subgrade and base layers.
