A concrete slab construction and contraction joint utilizes a one-inch diameter smooth dowel eighteen inches long spaced twelve inches on center across a butt joint. The joint features a construction joint with a one-quarter inch maximum width and a sealant reservoir at the top surface, positioned at a depth of one and three-quarter inches with the dowel centered at half the slab thickness. The concrete slab thickness ranges from seven to nine and one-half inches. Contractors are required to provide shop drawing submittals prior to construction.
