A two-and-a-half-inch AWWA C901 water line is installed within a trench with specific bedding, pipe zone, and backfill requirements. The bedding zone requires a minimum six inches of free-draining granular material beneath the pipe, with sand equivalent not less than thirty percent, compacted to a minimum ninety percent relative density. The pipe zone extends from six inches below the pipe to twelve inches above the crown, using similar free-draining granular material compacted to ninety percent relative density. The backfill zone requires a minimum twelve-inch layer of free-draining granular material with sand equivalent not less than twenty percent, compacted to ninety-five percent relative density, beneath twenty-four inches minimum of Portland cement concrete sidewalk construction.
