Standard trench installation and bedding requirements apply for PVC, HDPE, or reinforced concrete piping. A four to six inch layer of clean sand or gravel bedding is placed beneath the pipe, with similar material extending up the haunches to six inches above the crown. The trench is then backfilled with compacted material per geotechnical recommendations up to the subgrade. In paved areas or where required, a concrete cap is installed over the trench with a minimum three-foot cover to the asphalt concrete surface.
