A concrete paving control joint connects a new pour to existing adjoining paving to remain. The joint features a one-quarter inch thick polyfoam expansion material with a zip-strip top spray-glued to the side of the pour. Number four by twenty-four inch smooth steel dowels are spaced at twenty-four inches on center, drilled and epoxied into the existing paving using Simpson Set 22 epoxy. These steel dowels are sawcut to length rather than sheared and fitted with a plastic sleeve to allow for horizontal movement. Concrete edges are finished with a one-quarter inch maximum tooled radius, maintaining a one-and-a-half-inch clearance.
