Erosion control mats are laid over disturbed soil slopes with seams running up and down the slope rather than along the grade, except in narrow channels or swales. The underlying soil surface is roughened by tracking with lines perpendicular to flow before placing the mats. Mats are overlapped and secured with anchors installed per manufacturer recommendations. Erosion control mats are required on all disturbed slopes 3:1 or steeper that are not otherwise protected or scheduled to be reworked within 14 days of cessation of work.
