Straw wattles are tubes made from straw bound with biodegradable netting with no plastic materials allowed, measuring approximately eight to ten inches in diameter. The installation requires placing and securely staking the wattle in a trench two to four inches deep, dug on contour. Wooden stakes measuring one inch by one inch by two feet are driven through or adjacent to the wattle with twelve inches minimum embedment. Runoff must not be allowed to run under or around the wattle, and if more than one fiber roll is placed in a row, the rolls must be overlapped rather than abutted. The ends of the fiber roll must be turned up-slope to prevent runoff from bypassing the roll.
