An interceptor swale features a two-foot minimum width level bottom lined with two to four-inch rock center material, flanked by side slopes of two-to-one or less. The swale grade must not exceed five percent and is excavated into or built upon the original ground surface. A compacted earth berm provides one foot of minimum freeboard compacted to ninety percent of the modified proctor maximum dry density per ASTM D1577. Rock check dams are required every fifty feet or every five feet of vertical fall, and the outlet must consist of riprap discharging to a stabilized outlet, sediment pond, or level spreader.
