A metal gate connects to a CMU block wall with brick veneer through a gate hinge fastened with a two and a half inch expansion anchor. A one inch air space separates the brick veneer from the concrete masonry unit backing. A backer rod and sealant fill the control joint adjacent to the masonry return. Dimensions of six inches establish the spacing and clearances for the gate hinge and masonry returns. The metal gate itself is detailed on reference drawing B5 slash U dash six hundred one.
