An expansion joint is set between two concrete slabs with a non-extruding preformed compressible material filling the joint. The slab section transitions in thickness with a minimum slope length of five feet, extending to a depth of 1.25 times T1 at the joint. A smaller slab thickness T2 is maintained at the upper edge adjacent to the compressible filler strip.
