An existing catch basin or manhole is abandoned by removing the structure walls to a depth of five feet minimum below existing grade. The remaining base features a minimum six-inch diameter drain hole backfilled with crushed rock. The interior of the structure is filled with crushed rock wrapped in geotextile tensile fabric, such as Mirafi 500X or equal, with a two-foot minimum overlap. The remaining upper excavation is backfilled with engineered fill per project specifications up to existing grade.
