A 5-foot wide by 30-inch deep concrete grade beam is set atop a 10.5-inch subbase course and an 8-inch scarified and recompacted subgrade material at 95 percent relative compaction. The grade beam is reinforced with #6 continuous rebars spaced at 12 inches on center maximum typically, along with #4 transverse rebars spaced at 18 inches on center. A dowel bar extends from the side of the grade beam into existing Portland cement concrete pavement. The top of the grade beam interfaces with proposed Portland cement concrete pavement, maintaining a 6-inch clearance from the top reinforcement layer.
