Heavy duty concrete pavement abuts an asphalt pavement section with a stepped aggregate base and subgrade preparation. The concrete slab features a thickened edge transitioning into a stepped profile with minimum eight-inch horizontal dimensions and a two-inch vertical drop. A three-inch clearance separates the vertical concrete edge from the adjacent asphalt layer. Aggregate base courses support both paving types with matching stepped transitions.
