A buried storm drain pipe rests on a granular pipe bedding material conforming to specification D-701. The trench excavation requires a minimum width of the pipe outer diameter plus twelve inches and a maximum width of the pipe outer diameter plus twenty-four inches. Bedding material extends a minimum of six inches below the pipe and continues up the sides. Backfill material per specification D-701 fills the remainder of the trench up to the subgrade, maintaining a minimum twelve inches of cover above the pipe crown.
