A doweled construction joint bridges existing or previously placed portland cement concrete pavement and new portland cement concrete pavement. A steel dowel is installed into a drilled hole in the existing slab and epoxied in place, extending halfway into the new pavement at mid-depth (T/2). The end of the dowel embedded in the new concrete is coated with a thin, even film of lubricating oil or light grease to allow longitudinal movement. A joint sealant is applied at the pavement surface along the joint interface. Dowel size, spacing, and installation requirements are specified per project tables and specifications.
