Wire mesh with one-half inch openings and a top layer of filter fabric extends a minimum of one foot beyond each side of the catch basin. Washed gravel with a size of three-quarters to three inches is placed over the filter and wire mesh to a minimum depth of twelve inches over the entire inlet opening. Runoff water with sediment flows into the gravel barrier, allowing filtered water to enter the catch basin while trapping sediment. If multiple strips of wire mesh are necessary, they are overlapped.
