A doweled construction joint in a concrete slab or paving forms whenever operations are delayed or stopped. Steel dowels are epoxied into drilled holes in the hardened concrete edge, with drilled holes having a diameter one-eighth inch larger than the dowel diameter. The protruding end of the dowel is coated with oil or grease to allow slip movement. Edge bar clearance must be a minimum of 0.6 times the length of the bar. Concrete drilling is restricted until at least 72 hours after placement.
