A flexible pavement section is comprised of four distinct layers resting on compacted fill or subgrade per specification 312000. The upper wearing surface consists of a 4-inch total thickness of asphaltic concrete, split into a 1.5-inch layer with a 1/2-inch mix and a 2.5-inch layer with a 3/4-inch mix. Below the asphalt sits an 8-inch untreated aggregate base course. The sub-base layer requires scarifying and recompacting 12 inches of non-engineered fill per note 4.
