Spacing requirements between check dams in a drainage channel or swale dictate that distance L is defined such that points A and B on the channel bed maintain an equal elevation between consecutive check structures. Rock size is selected based on expected water flows, with a minimum thickness of 4 to 6 inches specified. Side slopes of the rock check dams are graded at 2 to 1.
