This asphalt pavement section consists of a 4.0-inch layer of Type B asphaltic concrete placed in a minimum of two lifts over a 4.5-inch Class 2 aggregate base compacted to 95 percent relative compaction per ASTM D1557. The underlying subgrade soils are compacted to at least 95 percent relative compaction per ASTM D1557 to provide a minimum of 12 inches of compacted material below the aggregate base. Work must comply with Section 26 of the California Department of Transportation standard specifications. Subgrade preparation requires over-excavation to a minimum depth of 12 inches below the bottom of the aggregate base or preconstruction site grade, followed by scarification to a minimum depth of 8 inches, moisture conditioning to within three percent above optimum moisture content, and compaction as engineered fill.
