A standard silt fence installation utilizes two-by-four Douglas Fir posts spaced at four feet on center. Filter fabric material is secured to the posts using staples or wire rings typically applied at the top and vertical extents. The base of the fence incorporates a six-by-six trench where the fabric extends to the bottom and maintains a two-inch excess overlap beyond the limits of the gravel. Washed rock or pea gravel ranging from three-quarters of an inch to one and a half inches is placed on both sides of the fence in a bevel shape per note requirements.
