A backer rod material with a diameter of W plus one-eighth inch is positioned inside the final sawed joint face beneath a field-molded sealant. The sealant depth D is specified as zero point five times W for silicone and one to one point five times W for hot poured sealants, depending on manufacturer recommendations. The joint reservoir width ranges from a minimum of one-half inch to a maximum of five-eighths inch, with a tolerance of one-eighth plus or minus one-sixteenth inch.
