A new water or sewer line pipe sits centered within a trench on a 150 millimeter coarse-grained sand pipe bedding layer. Filter fabric wraps around the bedding material over the trench width. The pipe zone includes a buried tracing wire positioned directly above the pipe crown, and a buried warning and identification tape runs through the upper backfill. Trench backfill is placed in 150 millimeter maximum lifts compacted to 90 percent for cohesive soils and 95 percent for cohesionless soils. The finish grade sits above the variable depth backfill with surface types defined on site plans.
