A concrete slab features a depth of T with a T over four deep sawcut at the contraction joint filled with sealant over expansion joint filler material. Smooth dowels measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter by sixteen inches long are spaced at eighteen inches on center at the center of the slab. The joint controls cracking by creating a weakened plane that induces a controlled crack beneath the sawcut.
