Prepackaged magnesium anodes are installed in either vertical or horizontal orientations with a minimum depth of six feet to protect underground piping and fittings from corrosion. A number ten American Wire Gauge Thermoplastic High Heat-Resistant Nylon-coated black anode cable connects the anode to the pipe or fitting per the project notes. The twelve-inch minimum wide excavation is backfilled with native soil free of rocks and debris, maintaining a twelve-inch minimum clearance around the anode body.
