A fire hydrant connects to a proposed ten-inch high-density polyethylene standard dimension ratio eleven water main conforming to American Water Works Association C906 ductile iron pipe size standards. The branch line utilizes a ten-by-six-inch weld-on saddle or tapping saddle attached to the main line, transitioning up to a high-density polyethylene mechanical joint adapter beneath the hydrant. A valve is required on the fire line as it branches off from the main line. The pipe connection zone is encased in a flowable fill bed four inches thick minimum, extending a minimum of twelve inches past the outermost ductile iron pipe fitting and a minimum of twelve inches past the outside wall of the pipe.
