A thickened edge concrete slab intersects with an asphalt pavement section, separated by a three-quarter-inch premolded expansion joint material with sealant and finished with a one-eighth-inch radius. The concrete slab features a thickness tapering from ten inches at the edge to eight inches, reinforced with number four bars spaced at twelve inches on center in both directions. The assembly bears on a six-inch gravel base over a compacted subgrade, with the edge extending down three to six inches over a five-foot transition zone.
