A utility pipe is bedded in approved material with twelve inches of clearance below and twelve inches on each side, surrounded by a rectangular pipe zone. Imported granular fill backfills the trench above the pipe zone up to the subgrade, compacted to ninety-five percent for paved areas with side slopes varying per soil conditions and OSHA requirements. The upper section receives an eight-inch minimum untreated base course where required, topped with asphalt and tack coat cut to a neat line in the existing pavement. Pavement restoration matches the existing pavement and base course thickness, or one foot for pavement restoration areas, with thickness varying per landscape plans and notes.
