A thickened edge expansion joint occurs where pavement abuts a structure, manhole, or trench drain. The edge of the pavement features a thickened section measuring one-and-a-quarter times the standard pavement thickness, tapering over a minimum distance of one thousand five hundred twenty-four millimeters. A preformed non-extruding joint filler extends vertically through the depth of the joint, topped with a joint seal as specified on sheet E1/CS501.
