A doweled contraction joint in a concrete pavement slab is supported by a wire chair and basket assembly. The epoxy-coated dowel features cut ends and is greased to allow movement, positioned at half the pavement thickness T over two. Top and bottom spacer bars maintain the dowel alignment across the butt joint. The wire basket assembly is secured to the subgrade with pins or anchors spaced three hundred to three hundred seventy-five millimeters apart on each side. A joint seal is applied at the top surface of the pavement directly above the joint.
