The new asphalt concrete pavement section meets the existing AC pavement at a full-depth sawcut edge protected with a bituminous tack coat. The new aggregate base extends with a twelve-inch minimum overlap over the existing Class II aggregate base. The existing aggregate base is protected and remains undisturbed to prevent loss of density and support under the existing pavement. The new AC pavement matches the existing four-inch thickness, and the new Class II aggregate base matches the existing nine-inch minimum thickness.
