An onsite fire hydrant assembly connects to a six-inch PVC Class 900 water main via a gate valve and a vertical elbow bearing against a concrete thrust block sized per plan and poured against undisturbed earth. The bury depth includes a hydrant extension ranging from six inches minimum to eighteen inches maximum, with a check valve installed near the surface and a locator wire running along the piping. All flange bolts, nuts, and washers are stainless steel and kept clear of the concrete. The fire hydrant must be approved by the City of South San Francisco, and valves and fittings require epoxy coating and lining per project specifications.
