The yard hydrant mounts to a 4-inch by 4-inch pressure-treated post with support brackets, extending 28 inches above finish grade and 36 inches below grade. The hydrant connects to a 1-inch polyvinyl chloride water line, branching from an 8-inch water main via a 1-inch corporate stop valve with a square nut. A 4-inch cast-iron pipe riser sits within a 12-inch by 12-inch concrete pedestal with a minimum 3-inch thickness, topped by a steel lid labeled 'WATER'. At the hydrant base, a 2-inch minimum layer of 3/4-inch crushed quarry spalls is contained by 2-inch by 4-inch forms to serve as a splash block, set over recompacted subgrade.
