This civil detail shows a doweled contraction joint in site pavement with an approved dowel bar assembly for transverse joints. One end of the dowel bar is greased to allow lateral movement, and the joint features an initial sawcut of depth S. The pavement slab has a total thickness T, with the dowel positioned at T/2. Clearance at the edge of the panel must be a minimum of 0.6 times the length of the bar. Dowel bar locations and sizes are specified per the structural tables.
