A joint bond cable or test station cable connects to a ductile iron pipe or fitting using an exothermic weld and a copper sleeve. The connection is sealed with either a handy cap or an epoxy coating compound filled to cover all exposed steel and copper a minimum of one-quarter inch. When using epoxy, a dam is built with plumber's putty around the assembly to retain the compound.
